Ariel Pink Models For Saint Laurent, He's So Hawt Right Now

Me, Aubre, Ariel and Frank back in 08'

I, as much of the fashion world, have mixed feelings about this whole Yves Saint Laurent/Saint Laurent  business. Hedi Slimane has created quite a controversy by re-vamping the legendary fashion house after  taking over the label last year. I don't mind the whole grunge, rock, goth vibe and I love that he used "unwholesome" (NYT description, not mine) rock stars Marilyn Manson, Kim Gordon, Courtney Love, and Ariel Pink in the new ads rather than the same old models we constantly see, but everything screams Hedi Slimane and barely whispers classic Laurent. I understand that it is Slimane's creative liberty to make changes, but he has turned the place upside down, even dropping "Yves" which I totally do not agree with.  I think if this was Hedi's own personally label, everyone would be happy and  praise it, but as far YSL goes, if it's not broken why fix it?

Otherwise, go Hedi for using Ariel Pink in his ads! To quote Mugatu (Zoolander 2 in the works is literally the greatest news on the planet) "he's so hawt right now!". Along with his Saint Laurent gig, his song "Life in LA" is being used in the new Celine video.

The boy has come a long way. In 2008 my friends and I had the privilege to hang out with him back stage at his show in Baton Rouge followed by impromtu swimming with his band at their motel. Ariel declined the swim with us and his band mates, but was very nice. Fun fact: He had on the very same pair of brown clogs that my Mom has been wearing for years. No wonder he is being fawned over by the fashion elite.

Mark Love Joy Photography

I just came across these photos by Mark Love Joy and I absolutely love them. They have me inspired to  want to create some splatter paint photographs of my own. Perhaps I have finally found a use for all my old nail polish.

Fashion blogs were a foreign being to me until I accidentally stumbled upon Rumi Neely's Fashion Toast about five years ago. Before this discovery, I was solely relying on magazines for my fashion fixes and while I am still obsessed with print material, discovering blogs opened me up to a whole new world.  Five years ago fashion blogs were not what they are today. Rumi was on the cusp of stardom, but in all she was a normal girl who whole heartedly loved fashion, like myself, and had a great outlet to share her passion with the world. I read Rumi's blog and a few others for about two years before finally gathering the courage to start my own. The main thing that was holding me back was the dreaded outfit posts.
Here's what's tricky, I am not a model. Not even close and I would look lame as fuck if I tried to be one. In fact I feel like the older I have gotten the worse I have gotten at taking pictures. I can't smize (although I have tried) and the bottom line is trying to look sexy in an interesting location is not me. In saying this I am not trying to put down the editorial style pics posted by girls like Rumi or Jane of  Sea of Shoes. I say if you got it, flaunt it and they definitely have the looks and talents to do so.  This is just not achievable for me, and even though I am reluctant, I still want to share my goods. Clothing goods not body part goods. Don't be dirty.
So, what to do when you want to show off said goods without "modeling". The answer is simple and it took finding the  Manrepeller to figure it out. Just look normal! Be yourself! Or if your body totally fails to take a decent picture, just feature the outfit a la' Le Fashion . After all, its the clothes that should be the focus, not me. That being said please enjoy my outfit shot taken in my front yard by my non photographer husband and his iPhone.

Zara Kids- Clothes I'd Like To Squeeze Into

I do not have a little squirt of my own, but I am embarking on what I like to call the "friends with kids" age (named after a movie I highly recommend). You may be experiencing the same thing. You're in your late twenties and it seems like all the sudden everyone you know is having babies… most even on purpose!  I have never leisurely searched out kid clothes, but with the recent addition of my friends baby, Violet, I have found myself seeking out key pieces to add to her baby wardrobe (I have already gotten her a much needed fur coat). In my search I have found that Zara has the most amazing baby and kid clothes and now I am giddy thinking about future Mommy and me dressing, picturing me and my unconceived baby wearing matching trenches, striped skinny jeans, and leopard pony hair sandals on an errand run.Your child is an extension of yourself, after all. Ahhh, fun thoughts but I will leave the baby-making to my friends for now.
